8th Tech & Innovation Expo Opens in Abuja

The eighth edition of the Technology and Innovation Expo organised by Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology opened today in the country’s capital of Abuja.

The expo which is normally hosted at the expansive Eagles Square, in the heart of Abuja offers opportunities for agencies and institutions under the ministry and others in the field of science and technology to showcase some of their innovations, especially the homegrown ones.

In a statement to highlight the importance of the expo which ends on March 15th, Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji said Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) is the vital solution to the national challenges and engine room for transformation and acceleration of the nation’s economic advancement, generation, create employment opportunities and improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

According to him, the objective of the Technology Expo is to promote locally made goods and services which will reduce the high cost of importation, enhance revenue generation, create employment opportunities and improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

“The administration of President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to ensuring that its Renewed Hope Agenda of accelerating economic diversification, through industrialization, digitilization, creative arts, manufacturing is achieved through the application of Innovation, Science and Technology,” Nnaji said.

The Minister, in optimism said, “With our collective and unrelenting efforts, our quest to achieve a service driven economy that is competitive in terms of culture, socio-economic and political independence, the future of our country will be great.”

He called on the Nigerian Technopreneurs in the Organized Public Sector (OPS) to be patriotic and look inward with a view to partner with the Ministry in developing the Country’s Innovation, Science and Technology sector for economic growth and national development.
