African Academies of Science to Hold 15th General Assembly in Abuja

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is set to convene the 15th edition of its bi-annual General Assembly (GA- 2024) in an expanded Global African Science and Technology (GAST) Forum to be hosted in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
The meeting which will be held over a period of three days between 9th and 12th December 2024, shall also feature a pre-event day, with the theme: Empowering and Advancing Africa’s Scientific Enterprise.

In the official announcement featured on its website, AAS said the 2024 General Assembly will unite not less than 1,000 “outstanding thinkers and distinguished stakeholders” from around the world, especially from Africa’s global Diaspora.

The event which will be held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, in Abuja, would feature a pre General Assembly Event comprising of eight thematic Working Groups to discuss Policy and Practice matters relating to their respective areas of specialization.

According to the Academies, the objective is to formulate a minimum of ten key recommendations for elevating the work of the AAS in Africa with global partners to advance “excellence/competitiveness”
