Nigeria to Launch Hybrid Maize Varieties on Tuesday

After over a decade of researches and trials, Nigeria will, on Tuesday officially launch Hybrid varieties of maize for use in the country.

The hybrid maize varieties, named TELA Maize after the Latin word, Tutela which means protection have been genetically engineered to withstand drought, resist the fall army warm, and stem borer insects.

The launch, which is scheduled to hold at the Ladies Kwali Hall of Abuja Continental Hotel in Abuja, would be officially performed by Nigeria’s Minister Agriculture and Food Security and with other high profile government officials, representatives of various professional groups and institutions in attendance.
