STEMi Africa facilitators guiding educators to do experimental designing of 3D butterfly

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Innovation Makers of Africa (STEMi Makers of Africa), an international nonprofit organization with a focus on inclusion, using innovation and empowerment with technical skills has led educators in a learning programme to experiment with intricate designs that would enhance the understanding of African students to critically think about material usage, structural integrity, and aesthetics.

With the aid of CAD Software, the educators created 3D models of a Butterfly before initiating the fabrication process with intricate designs that would have been challenging or time-consuming to do manually.

This is the latest in the series of similar learning opportunities offered by the organisation, which relies on Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) resources to help young African students to effectively transition to self-reliance and be problem-solvers for the region’s economy.

In May, STEMi Makers of Africa, which is registered and domiciled in the United States, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and the United Kingdom launched its inaugural Pan-African STEM educator fellowship for September 2024.

The fellowship is an impact investment programme to enhance the skills of 52 educators from 52 African countries in their teaching practices and introduce them to foundational concepts of computer science, evolving nuances of human capital development skills and hands-on STEM applications for their classrooms.

This inaugural fellowship will help the participants to improve their teaching competencies, facilitate the development of young African educators in science, technology and engineering education who will introduce innovation and creativity into science and engineering curricula.
