President Tinubu Reappoints Prof Mustapha As Biotech Agency Boss

The Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of the Director General, National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha for a second tenure of five years.

His reappointment, which took effect from October 31st, 2024 was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

Prof. Mustapha’s reappointment, which is in line with the provisions of Section 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022 has been commended by industry experts, who say it is an an expression of the President’s delight at the progress made by the agency under him.

They also say it is an attestation to president Tinubu’s confidence in Prof Mustapha’s ability to drive innovation towards attaining food security, enhanced pharmaceutical production, and position Nigeria at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. His reappointment is an opportunity to build on his salutary record of achievements in the last 4 years.

Mustapha is a Professor of Bioinorganic Chemistry from Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

His extensive wealth of experience in the academia and industry is expected to bring additional dynamism to the ethical practice of biotechnology for national development.
