The Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, recently hosted Onche Odeh, Editor of Africa Science Technology and Innovation (AfricaSTI) News, and Chinasa Ossai, Reporter at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), following their recognition at the 10th edition of the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Africa Media Awards. The event took place in Lilongwe, Malawi on December 18, 2024.
Accompanied by Dr. Rose Gidado, Director of the Agricultural Biotechnology Department and Country Coordinator for OFAB Nigeria, the award-winning journalists were commended for their exceptional work. Dr. Gidado highlighted that Onche Odeh won the prestigious Best in Print and Online Category, while Chinasa Ossai earned the second runner-up position in the Radio Category.
During the meeting, Prof. Mustapha congratulated the journalists on their remarkable achievements, noting their crucial role in enhancing Nigeria’s standing in the field of science and agricultural innovation.
He praised their commitment to evidence-based reporting and encouraged them to continue contributing to advancing agricultural biotechnology and addressing food security challenges across Africa.
The OFAB Africa Media Awards, organized annually by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation, celebrate excellence in science journalism, with a particular focus on agricultural biotechnology and its role in sustainable development.
