Nigeria’s biotechnology promotion agency, the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) has announced a name change to National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA).

The name change, according to a statement by the Press Secretary to the DG/CEO is in response to the recent directive by the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu for the implementation of the Oronsaye’s report which recommended holistic reforms in Nigeria’s civil structure.

The report recommended the merger of NABDA with the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) into the agency as outlined in the NABDA Act.

According to the statement, the renaming further reinforces the agency’s dedication to research, innovation, and cutting-edge biotechnological advancement, having been identified as a key driver of economic growth, adding that NBRDA remains committed to advancing biotechnology for societal progress, addressing key challenges, and contributing to sustainable goals through innovative biotechnological solutions.

“Under the forward-thinking and adaptive leadership of Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, the NBRDA is poised to drive transformative change, unlock new economic opportunities, and propel Nigeria towards a future defined by prosperity and resilience,” the statement stated.
